Got questions? We have answers.
Everything you need to know about Meeting Canary, how it works, and how it can transform your meeting culture.
What is the purpose of Meeting Canary?
Meeting Canary exists to make meetings better by displaying in real time who contributes and who does not, showing FIRE indices (Focus, Inclusion, Respect, Energy) to help improve meetings, and calculating real-time meeting costs to show exactly how much a meeting is costing.
Who is Meeting Canary aimed at?
Any company concerned about time spent in meetings. Recent statistics show that most companies, large and small, waste as much as $400B annually on unnecessary and unproductive online meetings in the US alone.
Is Meeting Canary for internal or external meetings?
Primarily internal. While it could be used for any kind of meeting, Meeting Canary is designed for internal meeting improvements and efficiency gains.
What does Meeting Canary do?
Meeting Canary is an actual participant in Teams meetings – a bird animation that changes character to nudge participants based on their actions. It can be queried using wake words, records action points and agendas, and sends post-meeting statistics and surveys to participants.
How are FIRE indicators calculated?
FIRE indicators are aggregated scores based on many measures – from simple ones like video/audio status to complex AI-driven calculations analyzing Natural Language Understanding, speaker time, language density, interruptions, and more. Meeting Canary is configurable to suit your organization.
Do I have to have Meeting Canary in all meetings?
No. You can choose which meetings it automatically joins or invite it on a meeting-by-meeting basis. It can be removed at any time via the participants panel if not needed.
Is there a limit to meeting size?
No hard limit. However, Meeting Canary is most useful when participation is under 30 people, as this makes real-time nudging and statistics most helpful.
Does Meeting Canary keep recordings?
No. While it analyzes conversation flow using NLU to gather insights, it does not keep recordings or transcripts. Teams can handle recordings separately with appropriate consent.
How is Meeting Canary hosted?
Meeting Canary is hosted on its own cloud servers via the Teams app store. For corporate subscribers, it can be hosted within your own cloud environment for maximum security.
Can I use Meeting Canary with hybrid meetings?
Yes, though reporting differs. It can see online participants clearly but will differentiate voices without being able to associate them with specific in-room participants.
What security standards does Meeting Canary follow?
Security is our highest priority. We work to ISO27001, the international standard for information security management, with formal certification expected in 2026.
Can Meeting Canary analyze past recordings?
Yes. We have an additional app for corporate use that can analyze past meeting transcripts against Meeting Canary's FIRE index.
